Fire this afternoon burnt down a store at a construction site belonging to Cecilia Ogwal located on Obote Avenue in Lira City.

The construction site is located on plot 47, just opposite DFCU Bank.

The fire started around 1pm from an abandoned incomplete building now being used as a dumping site.

Maktech Investments Limited’s site engineer Silver Moroneire who was at the scene said as some group of people were burning their rubbish behind the store, the fire got into the site office and destroyed materials, equipment and furniture.

Moroneire said when they saw the store on fire, the first thing they did was to alert electricity company, UMEME who disconnected power and contacted the Police immediately.

The Police fire and rescue team took control of the situation but it was too late to save the materials in the store.

Aron Opio a business man said he saw dark smoke coming out of the premise and he rushed behind to check what was happening only to fine the store at the construction site on fire.

Waste management has become a menace in Lira city with heaps of garbage almost every place in the city.

James Ekaju, the Regional Police spokesperson said the Police was informed and actions was taken. He said they are trying to find the cause of the fire.
